Bushey Farm History

The passion of agriculture runs deep in the Bushey family. It started with Alexander Boucher (spelling later changed to Bushey) and continues with his great grandson, T.L. and his sons, Jed and Jake. In 1855 Alexander was born in St. Joseph, Ontario, Canada. He married Angeline Leneway and was deeded 80 acres in Chandler Township near Caseville in 1894. Alexander’s son, Triefly continued the farming operation by purchasing additional land in Chandler Township. During the 1960’s, 70’s, and 80’s, Louis and Maurice, sons of Triefly, continued to expand the family farm by renting and purchasing additional acreage. Today, T.L. (Louis’ son) along with his sons, Jed and Jake, own and operate Bushey Farms. Like the generations before them, they are always looking to gain acreage and add value to their operation as opportunities are presented.

We grow corn, sugar beets, dry beans, alfalfa, and wheat on 3000 acres of land. Bushey Farm Tiling has also been installing plastic drain tile for over 38 years.

Bushey Farm Tiling History

Bushey Farm Tiling was established by brothers Louis and Maurice Bushey in 1978. In late 1977 they purchased a used Terex 82-40 bulldozer and a Krac tile plow. When Maurice decided to retire in 2000, Louis continued the day-to-day operations until 2013. Also in 2013, Louis’ grandson Jed joined the tiling operation when he was a senior in high school. In 2014 the Busheys purchased a Bron 450 tile to replace the original plow. After Jed graduated from Michigan State University in 2017, he purchased Bushey Farm Tiling and Louis fully retired at the age of 82. To assist with the workload, Bushey Farm Tiling employs seasonal and full-time labor.
